College and Career Readiness and AP Classes

While you are at CHCP you will have an opportunity to take many different classes that will help prepare you to be college and career-ready.  You must meet certain standards in both math and ELA to be considered college and career-ready. To be college and career-ready in math, you need to take and receive a passing grade of 70 or higher in Algebra, Geometry and Algebra 2. To be considered college and career-ready in ELA, you need to complete and pass all four years of ELA.  You also must receive a 75 or higher on the ELA Regents exam.

To further help you prepare for college and possibly earn college credits we offer a wide variety of Advanced Placement courses. Advanced Placement courses are rigorous courses that are taught at the college level. To celebrate you taking these challenging courses we have an AP celebration to recognize your hard work and dedication, along with an AP boot camp the week prior to the exams to help you study.  At the end of the AP course, you take an exam that is scored from a 1-5. Depending on the score on that exam and the college you attend you can be granted college credit.

If you are enrolled in an A.P. course you are expected to take the exam.  If you do not show up for your scheduled exam you are required to pay a missed exam fee of $15.  It is also important to bring in your lunch forms because those help determine if you need to pay for the exam or not.  The fee for the exam if you are full priced lunch or if you did not bring in your lunch form is $94 this year. Below is a list of the courses we currently offer and the dates of the exams.
